Lamps and Shades

At Home Remedies we specialize in lighting solutions for the home. We carry a full line of table and floor lamps, accent lights and chandeliers, as well as a wide variety of specialty light bulbs.

When shopping for a lamp shade, we recommend customers bring along the lamp for an expert fitting. If that is not possible, here are some tips on measuring for a new shade:

  1. Take note of how the shade will affix to the lamp. Does your lamp have a harp with a finial at the top? Or do you need the shade to clip directly onto the bulb? At Home Remedies we offer shades that fit onto harps, clip onto bulbs, slide over glass chimineys or screw in beneath the bulb for bridge lamps.
  2. Our manufacturer sizes their shades according to the diameter of the bottom edge of the shade (For instance, a 12" shade has a bottom diameter or 12"). You should also measure as shown below:

  3. A general rule of proportion: 1/3 Shade to 2/3 lamp. This means that the total height and mass of the lamp should be one part shade and two parts lamp. It is best to make sure that the shade hangs low enough to cover any unsightly hardware—such as the switch.
